Baby Steps, Craft Sticks, Basketball Player Steps, Oh My!
During one of our measuring activities this week, first graders had to measure lengths of tape around the room with different size units: baby steps, craft sticks, or basketball player steps. After completing all of the measurements, students worked in groups to figure out why the total numbers (measurements) were different for different units. They engaged in some great discussions! Ask your child to explain to you!!

Measuring With Kid Steps
As we continue our unit on measurement, students experienced measuring lengths of tape with their own feet! Students worked in pairs to ensure that someone was always watching for accurate measuring. They were all very careful to start "even Steven" with the end of the tape, and to always touch heel to toe as they counted their footsteps along the length of tape.
