Science Extravaganza - Creature Features!

We kicked off our new science unit on Organisms with a Science Extravaganza Day!  The focus for our day was learning about different animal traits or features and why or how they are helpful to that animal.  We also learned about camouflage and did a fun activity with it!

We read this great book to get us started! And then chose one of our favorites to draw and write about.

Next, we read What If You Had Animal Teeth? and learned all about the different types of teeth various animals have and WHY they have the type they do.  Then we created self-portraits of ourselves with a certain type of animal teeth!!

Finally, we learned about camouflage and how it can be a life-saving feature for both predators and prey.
We did an activity with moths - first, we searched for and counted paper moths that were camouflaged on some paper trees, and then we created our own moths to place around the room - colored carefully to blend in with things in the classroom - afterward we all went on a hunt around the room to find them!

Our hunt for the camouflaged moths!!
