Welcome Back!

Dear First Grader and Family,

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer! School will be starting in just a few weeks and I’m very excited to get to know you and your classmates! In addition to some summer fun, I have also been busy planning lots of fun activities for the beginning of the year, along with Mrs. Hackett and Mrs. Poor. We will begin the year building “Our Caring Classroom,” by working on ways to create a safe, respectful and kind community, both in our classroom and our school.

School begins on Wednesday, August 25th . Please remember that the official start of the school day is 7:50 a.m.  Remember to bring a healthy snack and lunch with you, or plan to get one or both from our school cafeteria. Your backpack and lunchbox should have your name on them . I have included a list of back-to-school supplies. Some of the items will stay in your desk, while others are combined for classroom community use. Please let me know if there is anything on the list you are unable to find or purchase. I can provide extras of everything.

***In order for our first week to run smoothly, please bring a note telling where you are going after school and how you are getting there each day.

I would love to hear about what you have been up to over the summer! Remember if you mail me a letter or a picture, I will write back to you! Just remember to include your address on the envelope. My address is 23 Oakcrest Drive, Burlington, VT 05408.

I look forward to seeing you in a few short weeks, but until then, enjoy the rest of your summer!!!  I can’t wait to hear all about your summer!

-1 sturdy 2-pocket folder (labeled with your name to use as a home-to–school folder for the entire year)

- 1 wide ruled composition book (marbled cover type) (labeled with your name)

- 1 small hand-held pencil sharpener with a top to collect shavings (labeled with your name)

- Over the ear headphones in a gallon Ziplock bag with your name on it. (**We will also have some classroom headphones to use, but it is very helpful for students to have their own, as well as being more sanitary)

-plastic pencil box (labeled with your name)

-set of watercolor paints (labeled with your name)

Optional / Wish List Items (for Classroom Community Use)

-3x5 and/or 4x6 index cards (white or colored)

- Post-it Notes (3x3 colored)

-Dry erase markers

- Sharpie Markers

- skinny markers, thick markers, colored pencils

- No. 2 Ticonderoga pencils

- eraser caps

- glue sticks

- bottles of Elmer’s (white) glue 

- soft tissues

-Baby Wipes (we use a lot of these)

-paper towels

-Lysol or Clorox Wipes

- Ziplock bags- all sizes, especially sandwich size

- hand sanitizer - large bottles for classroom use
