Read to Self

Today we did a lot of hard work during our reading workshop.  We Started off by learning about a third way to read a book. Did you know that you can read a book by retelling the story if it's a book you've heard before?!  We practiced doing this as a class with the book Mouse Paint.  First, students listened to the story being read to them.  Then, as a class, we "read" the book by retelling what happened across the pages.
After a quick movement break, we came back together and reviewed what it looks like, sounds like, and feels like to do Read to Self.  There are a lot of things to remember to do when you're reading to self!  This was our first day to really start practicing and we did a really great job!  We are working on building our stamina so that we can read for longer and longer periods of time.  Today, as a whole class, our record was a little over 5 minutes!  Which was a huge improvement over our first attempt when we got to 32 seconds!
