Roll and Record

During math today first graders practiced the "counting on" strategy for addition by playing a game called Roll and Record. Students used two dice, one with numbers and one with dots.  After rolling the dice they put the number from the number die in their heads and then counted on using the dots on the other die.  Finally they recorded their answer on the grid. They continued to play until one number "won" and reached the top of the column first!  It was interesting to see which numbers made it to the top most often.
