Thankful Writing

The children have been extremely interested in the story of the first Thanksgiving!  We read a brief story about it during the week, but they had so many great questions that we didn't have time to get into that they may come to you looking for more information!!  There are some great links to some sites on this topic via the "Great sites for Kids" tab on the RES library page.  Scroll down until you see the Scial Studies section.
Today we read a book called The Most Thankful Thing and the wrote about our own most thankful things.  Look for them to come home on Friday!!

Balancing Equations

In math today we continued learning about "true" and "balanced" equations. We have learned that the equal sign mean "the same as", so one side of an equation (or equal sign) must be "the same as" the other side of the equation (or the other side of the equal sign).  We have had some great discussions around this concept and we also used a special scale on which we could test out whether or not an equation was balanced and true.

Theme time today

Today during our Theme block, students worked with a partner to show the "Buy, Produce, Sell" cycle for a farm of their choosing.  They also needed to include some examples of "wants" vs "needs" under the "buy" category.

Our Classroom Farm

We have been growing grass for our mini farm, and we finally set up the farm yard with animals last Friday!!

Four Winds

In our most recent Four Winds session last week, students learned about "Animal Disguise and Surprise". They were able to experience just how important the color of an animal can be as they hunted for various colored "worms" outside.  They soon discovered that brown worms were the hardest to find!!

Guidance with Mrs. Kane

On Tuesday of this week we had a guidance lesson that focused on two main themes: good listening skills, and characteristics that we look for in our friends. Students were able to make a paper doll person by adding body parts that named various important traits. It was interesting to see what they each chose to include!!
