St. Nikolaus Day

One tradition celebrated by many German children is St. Nikolaus Day.  On the night of Dec. 5th, children leave their shoes out on their doorsteps in hopes that St. Nikolaus will fill them with treats during the night.  First graders made paper shoes to leave out on our classroom windowsill in hopes that St. Nikolaus might visit us!!

On to Germany!

After visiting Israel, first graders jumped back on the plane and continued on to Germany.  After boarding, stowing luggage, and collecting tickets the passengers fastened their seat belts and enjoyed some more "inflight" videos on Germany and their traditions at this time of year.

Our Morning in Israel

This morning first graders learned a little more about Hanukkah and the menorah before departing Israel.  After reading a book about how one family celebrates this holiday, they made their own paper menorahs.   We also got to sing the dreidel song!

Flying to Israel

From Norway, first graders hopped back on the plane and flew over to Israel. Again, their "inflight" video gave them a sampling of the culture and the holidays celebrated there during this time of year.  While "in Israel", first graders were also treated to a special visit from Mr. First who taught them about Hanukkah and the dreidel game!  They even got some chocolate gelt from Mr. First!  A huge thank you to Mr. First!!
