Friendship in Guidance

First graders learned about friendship with Mrs. Kane today.  Students thought about important traits or characteristics that they look for in their friends, or qualities that good friends have.  Then they got to "build" a friend with the characteristics that they feel are important.

Author Visit

Today first graders were very fortunate to have the chance to visit with children's book author, Juli Brenning.  Juli read her book, Maggie and Milo, to all three first grade classes, talked about the process of writing a story book like hers, and then shared a song that she wrote about the story as well.  She ended the visit by giving the students an opportunity to ask her any questions that they had.

Shelburne Farms

First graders enjoyed a wonderful field trip to Shelburne Farms today.  They compared farming in the past with farming today.  They started the day by watching a short play and then went on to various activities including feeding some farm animals, cleaning, carding and spinning wool, making butter, making beeswax candles, helping in the hay loft, and exploring antique tools.
