A Surprise Visitor!

Our long lost friend, Mrs. Kilbride, surprised us with a visit!  Mrs. Kilbride worked in our classroom from September through March, when a different opportunity came her way.  We were so excited to see her again!  She was the mystery guest reader, too!

Time Bingo!

As part of our unit on telling time, first graders enjoyed a game of Time Bingo!

Convincing Our Readers

We have come to the end of our opinion writing unit, and we are in the midst of sharing our published peices with each other.  Our goal?  To convince others to try something new, like see a movie, play with a certain toy, read a specific book!  I never knew that first graders could be so convincing!!

Our Bean Plants Have Grown!

First graders made their final observation of their bean plants before taking them home. My, have they grown!!  Hopefully they will all produce at least a few beans for you all to enjoy.

Examining Our Leaves

After collecting quite a variety of leaves yesterday, first graders were able to closely examine them and learn more about the important job they do for their plants. Ask your child to tell you what these amazing leaves can do!
Students compared their leaves, and listed similarities and differences between them. And they ended with doing some leaf rubbings!

Building a Clock

To kick off our mini unit on time, first graders worked in small groups and were asked to put together "something" piece by piece as I gave directions. They had no idea what they were building until I asked them to put out the numbered cards.  "Oh!  It's a clock I bet!" was heard from the chattering students. They had guessed correctly!  Our discussion then focused on the number of cubes, what they represented, and the numbers around the clock.  We practiced using our bodies as the hands, and counted out the minutes as the "hands" moved around the clock.
