Nonfiction Writing Celebration

Congratulations to all of my first graders on their amazing hard work with their nonfiction animal books and related projects!!  You should all be so proud of yourselves!

And a HUGE thank you to all of the families and adults that joined in and helped make our celebration so special!!

Blanket Fort and Read All Day day!

First graders enjoyed "an epic blanket village" and Read all Day day as a special reward for all of their expected behavior and for accumulating 60 hours of reading homework!!  It was a super fun day and I was so amazed by their collaboration, cooperation, and problem-solving skills as they created this "village"!

Sharing Our "All About" Books with Friends

This morning our class had the special opportunity to visit a kindergarten class and share our "All About" animal books with them.  The first graders all did a fantastic job reading their books and the kindergarteners were a very respectful audience for us!  This helped us prepare for our big writing celebration which will take place tomorrow morning!

A Short but Busy First Week Back!

Here are some highlights from our short but very busy first week back after February break!  Hope you all had a wonderful vacation!!

We began our first day back with some review of school-wide and classroom expectations.  We also talked a lot about feeling peaceful and calm and how that helps us to have expected behavior.  We read I Am Peace and then made "Peace Plates" using colors that made us feel peaceful.  They will be displayed in the hallway in the near future!

We started learning about telling time to the hour and made our own paper clocks!

We began a new author study on Dr. Seuss!  We started by learning about who this amazing author was and learned some very interesting facts about him. We will be reading many of his books not only for enjoyment but also to learn about story elements including the author's messages, themes, and lessons.

And finally, we began our new science unit on Space!  We read a couple of books about space and then created amazing space scenes!  Look for them in our hallway!
