Fishing for 10s
First graders are working on learning the pairs of numbers that equal ten. Today they played a familiar game: Go Fish! In this version they are fishing for numbers that will match up to make 10. Try playing this at home, too!!

Nonfiction features
During literacy we are learning about a variety of nonfiction features, and why they are helpful to readers. Yesterday we learned about "close ups" and today we learned why some nonfiction texts include maps. Students find examples of each feature in their own books, and create pages to show examples of them. At the end of our study they will staple them altogether to have a collection of examples of various nonfiction features.

Fractions!
In math today we started learning about fractions. We talked about halves today and related it to pizzas! Students were asked to design their own pizzas that were half one kind of topping and half a different kind of topping. Tomorrow we will look at how to make halves of a square.

Happy 100th Day!
We celebrated the 100th day of First Grade with some fun activities! We started the day with making some colorful visor/hats. During math we counted 100 star stickers and found a surprise on a 100 chart by coloring in various numbers. At Fundations time we challenged ourselves to write 100 words! During literacy we read a fun poem about the 100th day of school. We ended our day in the computer lab doing many different fun 100th day activities that can be found on a link on the Great Sites for Kids page. It was a busy day!!!
