Science Today
First graders had a chance to share their ideas about what science is, and what scientists do this morning. After a great discussion, they started to learn about the scientific method, and that scientists use this to learn about the world around them. They watched a couple of short videos that explained the scientific method through a rap song! Later in the day they also had the chance to start exploring the balls and ramps that they will be using to run experiments on force and motion. They then did some writing, focusing on things that the exploration made them wonder about, as well as things they noticed while using the balls and ramps.
"Everything" Day!
We earned a special day by doing another 60 hours of reading homework!! First graders enjoyed being comfy in their pjs, having a stuffed friend with them, and wearing crazy hair or a hat all day.

Rainbow 10s
An important part of our new math unit is to learn the partners that equal 10. One of the first activities involved making a rainbow to show all of the partners.
A New Science Unit
Right after break we jumped into a new science unit,on force and motion, which will be integrated with our science writing unit. We began the unit with thinking about what science is and what scientists do.
A celebration of our Writing
After many weeks of hard work, first graders finally completed and published their "all about" nonfiction teaching books. They practiced reading them with classmates, and then proudly shared them with the kindergarteners!
And now on to the kindergarteners!
