Nature Prints

As an end-of-the-year project, we collected ferns, along with some other interesting-shaped leaves, and used paint to make prints around a wooden picture frame.  This was very delicate work and the students all did a wonderful job!  We then put a class picture in the frame.  They turned out beautifully!!

Tree Friend Art

Early in the school year, first graders made a "Tree Friend".  We did many wonderful things with our "tree friends" throughout the course of the year during our outside learning times.  During our final time with them, as first graders anyway, we made some "goodbye art" to leave behind as a thank you and a farewell to them.   The artwork turned out beautifully!!  I hope these kiddos have learned much about trees during first grade and continue to be kind to them and to see all trees as our friends.    ❤🌳🌲

Patterns in the Sky

First Graders enjoyed another Science Extravaganza day recently.  This time we focused on our space unit which had us learning all about the patterns in the sky that we can observe, describe and predict.  We learned about the patterns of the sun, moon, and stars.

We watched some time-lapse videos of the sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset, and learned that the sun only appears to be moving - it is really the earth that is moving around!

We read this great book!

We created our own "torn paper art" scenes to show the predictable patterns in the sky across the day and into the night.

And finally, we learned a little bit about stars and constellations.  We even learned that the patterns of the stars could help you if you get lost!!
