Jericho Settler's Farm
We had a perfect day to visit the farm today!! Students learned about the connection of the farm to our community study, as well as to our year long plant study. We rotated through three stations during the visit: a scavenger hunt around the farm, planted onions to be sold to and used by our community, and made a veggie burrito using all the different parts of a plant!!

Move Up Day
This year at RES “Move Up” will be on June 6th. Our scholars will get the opportunity to meet their teacher for the next year and check out their classroom. They will bring home a letter that day to share their placement with you. We are so excited for our scholars to get a peek into next year!

Google Earth
First graders experienced Google Earth today! Part of our Community unit includes students learning their home address. Students learned how to properly write their own addresses and were then able to say it when called on in order for it to be entered into Google Earth. They were able to "visit" their house seeing it from an aerial view for the first time. They enjoyed pointing out things around their houses and in their yards.

Compass Rose
As a part of Our Community unit first graders started learning about maps today. We began with the compass rose and learned about the four cardinal directions. Students got to practice looking at some maps and using the cardinal directions to answer questions.
Response to Literature
On Friday first graders began learning how to write a Response to Literature. We read Wemberly Worries by Kevin Henkes and discussed Wemberly's character traits. Students then wrote about the character, her traits, and gave evidence from the book to support their claim. They a did a great job on this first attempt at writing a Response to Literature!!
