Investigations Unit 8

Students have been working in unit 8, which is a numeracy unit, for a couple of weeks now.  They have been doing lots of counting, adding, working with the 120 chart, counting up large amounts by making various groupings, as well as working on many problems involving things that come in groups of twos, threes, fours and fives.  Before break, first graders worked on an activity that had them counting up a large number of paper squares.  They needed to decide on a way to group the squares that would make it more efficient for them to count and find the total amount.  

When we return to school next week we will be doing a lot of work with the number ten, adding and subtracting ten, as well as digging further into place value.
