First graders started learning about maps today. We read Mapping Penny's World as an introduction to mapping. As part of Our Community unit, students will learn about different types of maps, how they help us, and some basic features, such as the key and the compass rose.
Today first graders drew a map of our classroom. They were then inspired to try to draw a map of their bedroom at home, so they each have a blank piece of paper in their folders on which to do so. We hope to share these in class with each other!
