W.O.W.

W.O.W. (also known as Word of the Week) is off to a great start in first grade!  Each week we learn a new vocabulary word which is paired with a book.  We learn what the word means, and discuss its use in the book or story.  Then students record the word, it's definition, a synonym or two, and a sentence with a picture in their personal WOW booklet.  The best part is the challenge: we challenge each other to try using the new word throughout the week in our speaking AND in our writing!  We even keep track of when we hear it being used!
