"How To" Books

This week first graders started a new writing unit.  They have begun learning how to write "How to" books.  First, they listened to a book called "How to Make Slime" and then compared and contrasted it with the "small moment" stories they had been writing.  They noticed some major differences!  Next, they did some brainstorming of ideas of things that they already know how to do, things they love to do, and things that they do all the time.  Finally, they began their first "how to" book.  They have already come up with some great topic ideas - I can't wait to read their books and learn "how to" do many, many things!!
