What Can We Learn?

First graders had the chance to explore some balls and ramps and think about what they could possibly learn about force and motion by using these materials. They discussed ideas with partners and wrote their questions in their science journals.

Snow Motion Day 3

Some snapshots from our third visit to cochrans!

Motion Walk

As an introductory activity to our Force and Motion unit, First graders went on a Motion Walk!  They visited a few places in and around our school, spending a few quiet moments in each to notice any motion going on, and to think about what was causing the motion.  We realized that there sure is a lot of movement going on around us all the time!!

Measuring with Different Sized Units

First graders have been very busy measuring different lengths of tape in the classroom. They are measuring the tape with differ t nonstandard units: craft stick, basketball player feet and baby feet.  They had to keep track of their measurements and add them to a class chart. We will using the charts to have a discussion around our findings, and why the numbers are so different.
