Log Hotels?!

Today first graders went into the forest to learn about rotting logs.  While reading a book entitled Log Hotel, they learned that a rotting log in a very important part of the forest, and home to many, many living things.   They also got to use our new magnifying glasses as they spent time investigating, exploring and observing various "log hotels" in our woods.  The exclamations of awe and wonder were such a treat to hear as they discovered insects, carved trails made by insects, mosses, a variety of fungi, soft and spongey wood, and lots of other interesting things.
