Bubbles, Dog Sleds, World Travels, and So Much More! Highlights of Our Learning from the week of 11/29/21

Wow!  What a fun-filled and busy week we just had!   We began a new writing unit, a new reading unit, and a new Theme unit, shopped at the annual RES Used Book Sale, and even had a visit with some sled dogs from Cobble Hill Kennel out of Middlebury!

While visiting with the sled dogs and learning about mushing, we got to try it out for real with some of the students acting the part of the dogs!

We began our writing unit on "How to..." books.  We started the unit by reading the book How to Make Bubbles and then tried it out!

We did some brainstorming of ideas of things that we could teach others how to do.

During math, we focused on learning our 10s Facts.  We found that the tens rainbow is super helpful in learning the partners to ten.  We even made some flashcards to practice them at home.

We learned about the "glued sounds" -am and -an during our Word Work.

We made suitcases for our world travels!  We will be traveling to a few countries to learn about different holidays and traditions celebrated during this time of year in other places and cultures.

Of course, we will need a passport to enter other countries!  We filled out applications for our passports and got a surprise delivery just in time to catch our first flight to Israel!!

This is us waiting in the "airport" to board our airplane.

Watch as we try to find out assigned plane seats!!

In the airplane... We got to watch some inflight videos to start learning about Israel and the tradition of celebrating Hanukkah.  We had to go through customs when we arrived safely.  We even got our passports stamped!

For our Friday Letters this week, we wrote a postcard from Israel!

We are keeping track of where we are in the world, learning some mapping skills along the way.

Part of the tradition of Hanukkah is playing the dreidel game.  These kiddos caught on quickly and loved it!  They also loved the Dreidel song!!  We listened to it many times while making our menorahs.

Spinning the dreidels...
