Our first full week of school was a success! We spent time getting to know each other a little bit better by sharing our "All About Me" bags. The students did a fantastic job sharing the four items in their bags and telling their classmates what each item represented. In the process, they learned about many similar interests among them!
We learned more about kindness this week and how important it is to be kind to others as well as to ourselves. We also learned that kindness has a "ripple effect". When we are kind to others, it makes them want to be kind and the kindness spreads, or ripples out to many more people! We made our own kindness ripples to remind us of this.
First graders reviewed what it means to do "read-to-self". We were reminded of how to do it and why it is so important! We got to practice doing it, too! Our goal is to work on building our stamina so that we can do it for longer and longer periods of time. I can already tell that this is a group of amazing readers!!
We spent more time out in the woods in our outdoor learning spaces. We read a wonderful book called If You Find a Rock and then each student got their own special wishing rock to keep. We started talking about "sit spots" and we will learn more about those next week!
