Learning About Different Holidays

Recently First Graders have spent some time learning a little bit about different holidays that are celebrated around the world during this time of year.  We have been talking about the importance of light in many holiday celebrations and traditions.  We learned about Hanukkah and some of the traditions that go with that holiday.  We sang (well, listened to!) some fun songs and learned how to play the dreidel game.  We also learned a bit about St. Lucia Day celebrated on December 13 in Sweeden.  We then made the candle crowns that are part of that tradition.   Next week we will learn about the Winter Solstice!
