Choosing Just Right Books

This morning we continued learning about how to choose "just right" books.  We compared riding a bike uphill, downhill, and on flat surfaces (with just a few "bumps") to reading books that are too hard, too easy, or just right for us.  First graders now know that it is very important to spend most of their time reading books that are just right for them in order to "grow" in their reading. ("Just Right" means they can read almost all of the words in the book, there are just a few tough words throughout the book.)
First graders were able to start choosing some just right books for themselves this morning.  They were excited and did a great job!!
