Would You Rather Be a Whale or an Eagle??

First graders have just started a short math unit on data - it will involve collecting data, representing it, and analyzing it.  We will be collecting data about our class through the use of survey questions.  Our first survey question was "Would you rather be an eagle or a whale?"  We collected our data by using two different colors of unifix cubes, one to represent eagles and one to represent whales. Students discussed how to organize the data, and then we analyzed it to discern what information it told us about our class.  Finally, they each had to make a representation of the data on paper.
