Force and Motion
First graders have been having a "ball" during their force and motion unit. They have been using a variety of balls along with ramps to investigate how and why things around us move. They have completed a number of experiments, each time going through the steps of the scientific method, and doing some writing about their observations and learning each time. Over the past few weeks, students have explored variables such as the weight, size and bounciness of different balls to see if those variables affect how a ball rolls down a ramp. They have also recently investigated how the incline and the texture of the ramp affects how the ball rolls down a ramp. Throughout the unit they have also been learning about the concepts of gravity, friction, and momentum.
