Let Us Tell You Our Opinions!

First Graders have begun a new writing unit - you guessed it!  Opinion writing!  We began the unit by reading the book, It Looked Like Spilt Milk, after which students made their own "spilt milk" pictures.  Their next charge was to decide what their picture looked like, and then write about their opinion, supporting it with reasons.  

Our next activity was to look at a collection of stuffed frogs and judge which one was "the best" in various categories (color, eyes, size, etc). We then moved onto a new collection of different stuffed animals and the students judged the collection for the "best in show", wrote their opinion as to why they thought that particular animal was the best, and gave supporting reasons for their opinion.
