Making Shadows

We had another wonderful time in the forest doing some outside learning!  Earlier in the day we had learned about the tradition of Groundhog Day and the role that shadows play in it.  So, we carried that learning into the great outdoors to do some shadow play!  We were lucky to have a bright sunny afternoon and not only noticed our own shadows spread out across the field, but also all of the many shadows surrounding us created by the trees, buildings, benches, etc.  Once we got into the woods we discussed where all of the shadows were hiding!  We then used tiny flashlights and shone them on various things in nature to see if we could create some shadows.  It was very cool!  On our way back inside we played around with making our shadows different sizes, too!
