Keeping His Dream Alive

Last Friday, First graders learned about the man for which we have a special holiday this week, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  We watched and listened to some informational books about his life, his work, his peaceful way, and his dream.  We had some wonderful and important discussions around ALL people deserving to be treated equally and fairly with kindness and caring. We then read this book and came up with some of our own dreams to make the world a better place.

While working on our project we were able to witness the 4th graders doing a peaceful march around our school.  This created even more excitement and passion in our first graders!  Many came back to the room saying that they wished they could do a peaceful march, too, and they began making their own signs about equality.  It filled my heart to see all of the love and caring in these young children.
