On Friday first graders learned some very interesting facts about ground hogs - like they are also called Whistle Pigs and Woodchucks! The book we read was a mix of fiction and nonfiction. We had a great discussion about which parts were fiction and which parts were nonfiction, and why they thought so.
Students could choose to make their own predictions about whether or not the groundhog would see his shadow today. And then we watched the official news clip of the big event in Punxsutawney, PA! The students were so intrigued by this! Six more weeks of winter!
