Only One You

Today we read a wonderful story by Linda Krantz called Only One You.  It's about a young "rockfish" whose parents are sending him out into the world. The parents want to pass on some nuggets of wisdom and guidance in how to navigate in the world, and keep a strong sense of self-confidence and self-worth.  It also reinforces the idea of each individual's uniqueness and importance.

After reading the story, first graders began this multi-day project.  They were able to choose a rock to use to make their own "rockfish" which will serve as a reminder of all of the important messages in the story, especially how important and special each and every one of them are.  Today they accomplished painting their rock with a white base coat and make some plans paper for how they will design their special fish.  Stay tuned for the final product!
